We are getting ready for Easter Vacation which will take us south this year. After a years absence we will be revisiting Manarola for three wonderful days. We spent most of our time in Riomaggiore, where our hotel was, but spent the afternoon in Manarola after following the famous Lover’s Lane Path. What I remember best about this little village was the American Expat in the cafe just behind me in this photograph.
I am sure she was naturally loud mouthed (probably from the east coast ;-)) but her new Italian family really brought out the Italian passion in her. She served up some fantastic bruschetta for lunch while her father-in-law tended bar. Hubby was probably off working La Spezia – or at least I imagined so.
Lover’s Lane was closed after a terrible accident in September 2012. I am hoping they have secured the trail and not just closed it like they have so many of the trails in this area.
Via Dell’Amore
These pictures show the area March 2012.
This area was destroyed by the rock slide in September.
This area was destroyed in 2009 but there are no funds to repair the path or secure the stones.
This sign is posted at both ends of the path but thousands of tourists walk past it daily.
Maybe it is for the best that we leave this area alone? Or maybe it is time the EU does something to Save Italy from itself.
