Help! Need trip planning advice for France

We have been going to France every couple of years since 2001 but have held ourselves to Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region apart from one weekend in Paris. Actually, if I break it down, we have only visited a handful of towns but we know them so well that we can always find a good parking spot on market day.

We dabbled with the idea of buying a house in Les Arcs sur Argens but balked at the price of 700 000 French francs for city house that needed major renovations. How could we have known that less than ten years later it would be selling for 10 times that price? This is almost as depressing as having not bought Microsoft stock in the late 80’s.

Anyway, we will be visiting places we normally do not visit so I would love some recommendations. We are starting off our adventure at the Braderie de Lille in northern France and using a week driving south along the eastern side of France, stopping at the cites I have pinned. Then over to the mediterranean to check out Languedoc-Roussillon for a week and lastly north for another week poking around Burgundy and Champagne-Ardenne.

I have looked at Trip Advisor and tourist sites which yielded some of the must-sees on my list and now I appeal to you dear blog reader. Do you know about any good blogs that specialize in the areas we are visiting or have any advice on what to see, eat or buy? If you do I would love to hear from you. Best tips may even be rewarded with Pâtes de fruits!

  2. If you are staying in the Charente, La Rochelle is definitely worth a visit, a beautiful old port with many fine restaurants serving freshly caught fish. The IIe de Re, which can be reached by bridge from La Rochelle, is extremely pretty with villages of whitewashed cottages and green shutters and hollyhock climbing up the walls. The main town to head for is Saint Martin de Re.

    • It sounds wonderful! Thank you so much for the tip. I think we have time on the way to Bordeaux and a charming coastal town would be perfect.

What do you think?
