Normally, I live in Haugesund on the west coast of Norway.  The people of Haugesund are very proud of their heritage and continue to celebrate herring or Sild with festivals all throughout the year. Herring was the main source of income and an important food for many generations.

After 16 years of living in Haugesund, I even developed a taste for herring and really like Denja Danish curry herring. Their sour cream herring is also pretty yummy.  But it seems that my education in flavorful herring is incomplete.  Norwegian innovation stopped short.

Germany has chili-cranberry herring, tomato – banana herring and lime – mandarin which actually does not sound so bad.  I wonder how these would go over back home.
